“And in the end The love you take Is equal to the love you make”

–The Beatles —

There she was again! She had been haunting him for years now. On and off over the years.

Most of the time, she appeared briefly in a mist. Usually, her form did not solidify enough to make out features,

However, her appearances were always accompanied by the hint of a scent that haunted him from many years in the past.

The first appearance was twenty years earlier when he had embarked on A journey to visit his old Brooklyn neighborhood.

He was sitting on a park bench at the Brooklyn Parade Grounds, where he and his companions assembled.

It was early evening when a mist began to gather near him. He thought it strange, as it was only in a small area directly in front of him.

He noticed a familiar scent, light at first, then more robust. That was when she began to take shape: long black hair, a light dress, and a shawl on her shoulder.

“Querido,” said a disembodied voice. Suddenly, the vision was gone. The scent lingered for a short time, then that too was gone.

He had his suspicions as to who it was that was haunting him.

He had hoped that she would be found among the living, but the visitations convinced him it was not so.

Along with the visitations, he had been having vivid dreams of late.

A beautiful woman identified herself as Magdalena Rosario and referred to him as Lucian filled his dreams.

Suddenly, her scent filled his nostrils, more vital than ever.

There, in the corner. Her figure coalesced more solid than ever before.

“Gypsy!” He exclaimed, “It has been you all these years.”

“Si mi Vida, It is me.”  She replied

“But, but you look like the woman from my dreams too. Magdalena?”

“Yes, my love, all will be revealed as soon as you are free to come with me.”

“Is this the end?” He asked her.

“No, my love. It is but a new beginning.”

Author’s note: This was my first attempt at fiction. It started as an attempt to put finis to the saga of The Gypsy and The Clown. It morphed into the first faltering steps to become “Nexus: The Return.”

Its place in the Chezzy Chronicles is not fixed. It rightfully belongs with “The Nexus” but also belongs with the “Life of Rudy.”

I have decided to post it under both.

The Life of Rudy: Chapter 11 And in the end…A Fantasy (Prelude to Nexus)
