Electric buses running down Tompkins Street
Riding the BMT to Brighton Beach
Steeplechase Park at Coney Island
Johnny Horton signing autographs at the RKO Kenmore movie theater on Church and Ocean ave

I Remember
Hanging with the gang at Jahn’s Ice Cream Parlor
Sitting on the Parade Ground park benches with the gang
Religious instruction at the catholic church and the dance social afterward
Meeting the girl of my dreams at the dance social
Playing Tag football on the street on St. Pauls Place with the gang
Swimming at the Boys Club on Bedford Ave
playing in the open fire hydrant on Lenox Avenue

I Remember


Nathan’s Hot dogs at Coney ISland
5 cent pretzels from the street vendor outside Walt Whitman JHS
Sabrett Hot Dogs from the food cart outside Erasmus Hall HS
12 cent Tastee Cake chocolate layer cakes
German Crumb cakes from Ebinger’s bakery on Caton and Flatbush Avenues
chocolate egg cremes from the lunch counter on Lenox Rd (thanks to Marty for this one)

I remember

Standing across the street from my apartment on Flatbush Ave at 1AM and watching smoke pour out of the windows
Looking out of my bedroom window on the 3rd floor as I watched the love of my life walk out of my life forever
Waiting in the Emergency Room of Kings County Hospital when my best friend cut his hand open
All of The 7 sinners

I remember
Walking thru the snow from Linden St to Walt Whitman JHS
Making snow angels in Prospect Park
Sledding in the snow in Prospect Park
Horseback Riding in Prospect Park
Taking the bus out to Avenue U
Murray the K’s Holiday Revues

I remember the good, the bad, and the ugly that was Brooklyn 1958-1964
